DHCD Participates in the Hoen & Co Groundbreaking

Cross Street Partners, Strong City Baltimore, and City Life are working together to renovate the 85,000 square foot complex. When complete, the 85,000 square foot Hoen Lithograph Building complex will become The Center of Neighborhood Innovation (CNI), a new model for neighborhood transformation. The CNI will convene an interdisciplinary group of social entrepreneurs, non-profits, service providers, and researchers committed to solving the issues facing our most distressed neighborhoods and provide them with the space and support they need to affect positive community change.

Unlike traditional project-based initiatives that focus on a single issue, place-based efforts such as CNI address the multiple issues presented by a single geographic area. CNI's tenant partners will seek to address these and other issues through individual efforts and in collaboration with each other. The interdisciplinary group will help students and residents move step-by-step along the continuum from schooling to job training to career building.

Cross Street Partners obtained the buildings through the City's Vacants to Value program. The faithful restoration of Hoen will preserve a major historically significant building, formerly home of one of the most important lithographic printing companies in the world. The Collington Square Elementary/Middle School Choir will sing a song during the celebration. The choir is made up of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.
