2017 Youth Summit

This past Friday, Resident Services, Inc.’s (RSI) hosted their 6th Annual Youth Summit. The goal of the summit is to provide youth, ages 6-18, with a full day of free empowerment workshops, motivational speakers, and educational and life-skills workshops that will cover topics such as conflict resolution, money management, health and nutrition, physical fitness, etc. The youth that attended are primarily from public housing, but many were also be from Section 8. The summer YouthWorkers, who are employed at various HABC sites, also attended.

Since its inception in 2011, RSI’s Annual Youth Summit has been set on a college campus, such as Johns Hopkins University and Morgan State University, to encourage the youth to pursue post-secondary education, whether it is college or trade school. This is Coppin University’s first year hosting the Summit.

The goals of the Youth Summit are to:

• Address factors known to influence youth decisions and behavior

• Empower youth with positive and inspiring messages

• Work on strategies that offer hope in preventing negative behavior in youth

• Educate youth of resources in their communities

• Ultimately, to let the youth of Baltimore City know that they are special, that we care about them and that we are here to support them in any way we can

Financial partners this year include:
