Public Housing Youth Wins the Baltimore Housing Holiday Kids Art Contest
New contest encourages children to tap their creativity and unlock their potential
The winners of Baltimore Housing’s first-ever “Holiday Card Kids Art Contest” were announced on January 15, 2013 at the Housing Authority of Baltimore City (HABC) Board of Commissioners meeting. The theme of the contest was "Home for the Holidays." Twenty-nine children submitted entries for a chance to be featured on Baltimore Housing’s 2012 holiday card. The holiday card art contest was open to children 18 years and under who participate in a Baltimore Housing program, including public housing, Housing Choice Voucher Program, the HABC Child Care Program, and the Office of Community Services Childcare Academy.
Twelve-year-old Antwon White, Jr. of Perkins Homes won first place. In addition to being featured on the holiday card, Antwon’s artwork will appear on the Baltimore Housing website and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BaltimoreHousing). Second place went to 7-year-old Lashay Redmond of Cherry Hill Homes. Ten-year-old, Michael Marshall of O’Donnell Heights came in third place. Honorable mention was given to 7-year-old Lavar Redmond (Cherry Hill Homes) and 6-year-old KaMyah Walker (Dr. Emerson Julian Childcare Center).
Recognition is due to all of the children who participated in the 2012 Baltimore Housing Holiday Card Kids Art Contest for their artistic expression and effort. Special thanks are due to the Baltimore Housing staff that helped make this project possible.
