1st Annual Rising Star Golf Tournament Raises $50,000 to Send Students to College
(BALTIMORE, MD - SEPTEMBER 28, 2012) - The first annual Rising Star Scholarship Golf Tournament raised over $50,000 that would establish an endowment fund to send gifted and talented students from families who face financial challenges to college. The tournament held at Pine Ridge Golf Course was hosted by Resident Services, Inc. (RSI), a 501©3 organization designed to enhance the quality of life for public housing and Housing Choice Voucher Program residents of Baltimore City.
"We couldn't be happier that our first golf tournament was so successful," said Anthony Scott, Board Chair, RSI. "Our goal is to support young people who have the desire for higher education and a better life, but not the means. Today we helped some dreams come true."
Established in 2009, the Rising Star Scholarship Fund has supported 26 students in attaining higher education. The program, a partnership between RSI and the Housing Authority of Baltimore City's Resident Advisory Board (RAB), provides need and merit based scholarships to students who have been accepted to higher learning institutions. The program is designed to encourage academic excellence and foster leadership potential in young people.
RSI and RAB would like to thank all of their sponsors, including major sponsors Gibraltar Construction, Inc., SunTrust Bank and Grant Capital Management.
