Special Mobility Housing Choice Voucher Program

The Special Mobility Housing Choice Voucher Program was established under the partial consent decree entered in Thompson v. HUD and is run by Metropolitan Baltimore Quadel (MBQ). Everyone participating in the Program must attend a family readiness workshop and complete the goals in their family plans created with the help of an MBQ counselor. The Program provides 3 housing options, which are:

The Special Housing Choice Voucher .

Participants receive a voucher after completing a family readiness workshop and the goals in their family plans. The vouchers must be used in certain eligible areas. Families search for units in these eligible areas with assistance from MBQ.

Project Based Units.

MBQ finds units in the eligible areas and enters into agreements with the owners of the units to lease them to families referred by MBQ. MBQ then takes families who have completed the family readiness workshop and the goals in their family plans on tours of these units;

The Homeownership Demonstration Program .

In this program, families who have steady employment and decent credit receive housing counseling and other assistance from MBQ in purchasing a home in one of the eligible areas
