Project Name: Orchard Ridge

Neighborhood: Belair-Edison

Address: 4300 Orchard Ridge Blvd. 21213

Description: Baltimore Housing has redeveloped the former failed low-income housing projects into a new rental and for-sale neighborhood that has attracted families from all income groups. The former Freedom Village Apartments consisted of 307-unit FHA-subsidized rental housing development located on a 15-acre parcel, Baltimore Housing acquired that property through an FHA foreclosure in June 2002. The former Claremont Homes, which abutted Freedom Village, and was nearly vacant and a severely distressed public housing site consisted of 292 units on 43.4 acres. The former Claremont Extension, a 152-unit high rise, sat in the center of these two communities. The new community now known as Orchard Ridge was transformed into a less dense mixed income community with tree line streets and a community center with a state of the art fitness center.
