Head Start Volunteers-Making a Difference.

The positions below are just a few examples of how volunteers play an important role with Baltimore City Head Start.

CLASSROOM ASSISTANTS -assist with arts and crafts, help with story telling and reading, prepare classroom materials, assist in different learning centers, assist during rest period, make charts, run games, cut out pictures for activities, etc.

RECEPTIONISTS -greet visitors, answer the telephone OFFICE ASSISTANTS-perform data entry, file documents, answer telephones, review invoices, collate materials

OFFICE ASSISTANTS -perform data entry, file documents, answer telephones, review invoices, collate materials STORY TELLERS -read and tell stories to children

MUSIC TEACHER -lead children in music activities, train teachers in teaching strategies to make learning concepts in music exciting

ART TEACHERS -lead children in art activities, train teachers in creative strategies to make learning concepts in art fun

DANCE INSTRUCTORS -lead children in movement activities and train teachers to involve movement in teaching various concepts

FIELD TRIP GUIDES -assist with field trips and other special events

DATA ORGANIZERS -collect and organize data for reports, newsletters, trainings, etc.

COMPUTER INSTRUCTORS -train staff in the basic use of computers and software, conduct computer classes for parents

ADULT EDUCATION TUTORS -tutor parents in reading and math

PROGRAM TOUR GUIDES -greet visitors and lead tours around the Head Start Program sites

PLAYGROUND SUPERVISORS -supervise outdoor play, walks, etc.

LUNCHTIME ASSISTANTS -assist in preparing meals, help shop for snacks, assist children in setting up lunch tables, assist children during meals, assist in clean-up after meals

MEDICAL/HEALTH ASSISTANTS -conduct vision, dental, height, and weight screenings

DOCTORS -conduct physicals for children

DENTISTS -conduct dental exams for children and parents

CARPENTRY REPAIRERS -repair toys, playground equipment, classroom equipment

HANDYMEN -assist with minor repairs at program site, assist with minor cleaning, conduct pickup and delivery of mail and other items to Head Start sites, transport staff and children

COOKS -assist in the preparation of meals

BULLETIN BOARD DESIGNERS -develop ideas and themes for attractive bulletin boards to display children's work and to communicate with parents and staff

GRANT WRITERS -help identify and write grants for special projects

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SPECIALISTS -work with children who have delayed language development

PUBLIC RELATIONS SPECIALISTS -assist staff in developing and implementing a public relations plan for the Baltimore City Head Start Program

PERFORMING ARTISTS -use skills to entertain, teach, or reinforce learning concepts for children.
