Uplands Visionaries, LLC today announced the grand opening of Uplands, a $238 million residential community located on the site of the former Uplands community in southwest Baltimore, one of the only new housing developments located in the city.

An opening ceremony will be held on Monday, June 3rd at 10:00 a.m. with community leaders and elected officials including Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

The community located on 63 spectacular acres of tree-lined streets just 3.5 miles from Camden Yards, encompasses 761 residences, including townhomes and semi-detached residences, as well apartment homes with one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans.

Uplands Visionaries, LLC is a public-private real estate development consortium managed by Pennrose Properties, LLC and consisting of Bozzuto Homes, Cryor Development, LLC, Harrison Development, LLC, KMJ Uplands, LLC, Scientia Uplands, LLC, and Southwest Baltimore Community Development Corporation, Inc.

In addition to Mayor Rawlings-Blake, the grand opening of Uplands will feature addresses by:

Mark H. Dambly (President, Pennrose Properties, LLC);
Tom Bozzuto (Chairman & CEO, The Bozzuto Group);
Raymond A. Skinner (Maryland Secretary of Housing and Community Development); and
Paul Graziano (Baltimore Housing Commissioner).

Located on Route 40 near Edmondson Village, Uplands replaces the old Uplands Apartments, a community of 979 publicly-subsidized apartments. Built by local developer Ralph Chiaro in 1948 on the site of a former private estate, the Uplands community was eventually bought by Baltimore City in 2004 from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The new Uplands is designed to feature affordable and market-rate housing, attracting a widely diverse group of buyers and renters. Design architect David Dixon has characterized the new Uplands as “an urban village” that would lift up the area and resemble Roland Park, with trees, grass and winding lanes.

Uplands is surrounded by inviting parks and greenways, sidewalks, and paths, and offers beautiful views of downtown Baltimore and the Inner Harbor. The community, situated on the south side of Edmondson Avenue, between Old Frederick Road and North Athol Avenue across from the Edmondson Village Shopping Center, combines the comforts of suburban life with the liveliness and convenience of an urban setting.

Today’s opening ceremony will take place at 4501 Edmondson Avenue. Media representatives are invited to attend.
